WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
Paying some extra attention to how you wash your clothes will not only prolong their life, but also help minimize the environmental impact and save our natural resources.
Here is some other resourceful advice.
Cotton
There’s no single way to wash and care for cotton because of its many variants. The best method to wash it is by following the instruction on the item’s care label.
Most cotton fabrics are prone to shrinking. You can prevent this by washing it with cold water using your hands. Give your item a gentle stretch after washing to return to its shape.
Cotton fabric maintains its form when you air-dry it. Once it’s dry, you can iron your cotton t-shirt and jeans.
Silk
The process of cleaning silk fabric depends on its type. High-quality, luxurious silk requires pure dry cleaning only.
Some low-maintenance silks can go in the washer on a gentle cycle as long as you place them in a mesh bag.
The machine shouldn’t be full. Leave an adequate gap that will fit a hand, then soak up the water with a towel after the cycle.
Check the label on your item to learn how you should care for the silk material. In general, silk should never touch chlorine bleach or direct sunlight. It would be best if you didn’t tumble dry nor mix it with other colored fabrics.
Linen
Linen is a natural material and can easily get mis-shapen when wet. To restore the garment to its original shape, iron it with a hot steam iron. To keep its sheen, iron the garment on the reverse side.
Viscose
Viscose is an artificial fiber from cellulose and can easily get mis-shapen when wet. To restore the garment easily to its original shape, iron it with a steam iron.
Polyester
Polyester is often made from recycled soda bottles. Although less durable than nylon, it’s still plenty strong. Its low cost and wrinkle resistance make it one of the most commonly used fabrics in the world: Typically, it is used together with cotton to make shirts. Polyester clothing is usually machine-washable, and a warm wash cycle is ideal.
Details
Take off removable details and do up Velcro and zip fastenings before washing. Wash nylon tights and delicate garments with details in a laundry bag.
